Improve Your Maths

Peter Neale MA(Oxon), MSc

My Approach

I always make sure that my students really understand the topic that we are studying. The pace of progress in my lessons is set by the student; as soon as they are confident, we will move on, so that the lesson doesn’t become dull and repetitive.

If they find something a bit more difficult, I will find another way of looking at it and spend as much time as it takes for them to gain a real understanding.

Because I am retired, I can take time outside the lesson to find the materials that best support each student and their way of learning.  If I do need any help, I can always call on my daughter, who is Head of Maths at a school in Devon (mind you, she sometimes asks me!).

My Qualifications and Experience

MA - Oxford University - Engineering Science

MSc - Cranfield University - Design of Information Systems

A-Levels: Maths (A*), Physics (A), Chemistry (B)

After my A-Levels, I continued to study Maths, as part of my Engineeing Degree at Oxford and I have used it on a daily basis, as part of my profession.  Most importantly, I really enjoy Maths!

I retired 4 years ago, after a career in Communications and Information Systems, as an Engineer, Service Manager and Project Manager.

I knew that I would need something useful to do, so I started tutoring Maths and soon found that I really enjoyed it.

I have now been tutoring for 4 years, delivering over 300 lessons

What Else Do I Do?

I am a Governor at the local Primary School, where I Chair the Finance and Personnel Committee.

I am also a volunteer with the Milton Keynes Parks Trust, helping to organise monthly fun-run events in the local area.
